Dare your mind to create :)
Always been amazed with people who can do intricate knits, striking embroidery, complicated cross-stitch patterns. The line “ I wish I was THAT talented!” always pops into my head whenever I see unique creations.
Back in highschool (or was it gradeschool?? Can’t remember!), we had a subject called Home Economics. We had to do crochet and cross-stitch mats, sew stuff and the like. I actually didn’t appreciate it back then. But when the cross-stitch / crochet market got popular, I was so happy because I had the skills to do these things. Plus, I realized it’s SO therapeutic! Your mind goes blank and you’ll find yourself doing it for hours!
Last week, I was invited to go to a DMC event at Early Bird Breakfast Club in Century Mall. We met Manila’s top crafters Alessandra Lanot, Candy Alipio, Karla Quimsing, Len Cabili, Marielle Reyes, Mikko Sumulong and Trey Ajusto. It was a simple presentation of their works plus short sharing. I got super inspired to create things after hearing all their advices for the people who want to get into arts and crafts. Thought I’d share them with you guys! J
Take something ordinary, pair it with something unexpected to create something ordinary.
Don’t be afraid to try something new. You can make anything with your hands as long as you put your mind into it.
GO FOR IT. Be adventurous. Create something that you love.
See the potential in things.
Never be afraid to make mistakes.
Know the basics. Don’t be limited by the misconceptions about the craft.
These artists challenged us to think outside the box and encouraged everyone that the opportunity to make something is infinite. After hearing their stories, I seriously felt like getting a thread and crochet something. DMC pushes everyone to discover a part of us and share it with other people.
Speaking of sharing... *weird segue* hahaha! Here's what I wore during the DMC event :p And meet one of my blog managers, Arianne! Twinning that day! :)
Are you inspired now? Well, good news to all the aspiring artists out there! DMC is going to have a 3-day weekend craft fair on January 30 to February 1 at Century Mall Event Center called “HANDCRAFTED”. It will be a venue to buy handmade pieces or make your own little projects. Partner crafters will also be at the fair to hold workshops for those who want to learn new skills! Cool right?? SO EXCITED TO GO HERE AND LEARN NEW THINGS!!! :D
See you there? Let’s dare our mind to create unique and beautiful things! :D
